House Committee on Appropriations Chairman and Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co is asking Bicolanos to cooperate and heed the government's instructions after authorities raised the alert level for Mayon Volcano from Alert Level 1 to Alert Level 2. "We will work closely with local government units (LGUs) and relevant agencies to address the immediate and long-term needs of the affected communities," Co said in a statement late Monday afternoon, June 5. He emphasized the need for locals to stay informed and adhere to the advisories and precautions issued by the local authorities and Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). These include following evacuation plans, avoiding the designated danger zones, and remaining vigilant on any further updates regarding the volcano's activity. He urged everyone to take this alert level increase seriously. "We must prioritize the safety of our communities and take the necessary precautions to minimize the risks associated with volcanic activity. It is crucial for everyone to stay informed, remain calm, and cooperate with the government agencies involved in ensuring our well-being," stressed the second-term solon. Mayon Volcano in Albay is known for two things: 1) its majestic beauty, and 2) its history of activity, which have always posed a significant threat to the nearby communities. "We want to assure the people of Bicol that Ako Bicol Party-List is fully committed to supporting and assisting those in need during this challenging time," added Co. "We understand the potential impact of the raised alert level on the livelihoods and well-being of our fellow Bicolanos. In response, we are prepared to extend our helping hand by providing aid, relief, and necessary resources to ensure that affected residents have uninterrupted access to essential services and the support they require," he further said.
