ILOILO CITY – The Razon-owned MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) has started refunding bill deposits of good-paying customers since it took over as the sole power distributor here in 2020.
MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro and Commissioner Alexis Lumbatan of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) turned over the refund for the first three customers in a ceremony on Friday, June 2.
They are Barangay Chairman Romeo Losario Jagorin Jr., Emmanuel Improgo, and Baby Jean Agustin, residents of Barangay Sambag in Jaro District.
The ERC mandates power distribution utilities to refund deposits made by good-paying customers for a period of three years.
According to Lumbatan, it is rare for other power utilities in the country to implement the ERC mandate for a refund on consumers’ bill deposits.
For Castro, MORE Power wants to become a good example by implementing the refund regardless of whether the consumers asked for it or not.
“Even if the customer does not ask for it, we go out of our way to inform the customers that this is due you and we will return it,” Castro said.
“It’s a milestone that the distribution utility (MORE Power) is the one calling its consumers to refund their deposits,” Lumbatan said.
Jagorin, Improgo, and Agustin lauded MORE Power for doing the right thing in implementing the deposit bill refund. For them, the P2,500 refund may not be much but is appreciated.
