SANTO TOMAS CITY, Batangas – A member of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was shot dead on Saturday evening, June 3, in Barangay San Miguel, this city.
The Batangas Police Provincial Office (BPPO) identified the victim as Leonardo Caronan, 43, assigned to the BJMP in Cabuyao City, Laguna.
Police said the Caronan and wife were about to close their mini-grocery when a man wearing a black jacket and light-colored pants arrived on board a motorcycle.
The gunman drew a short firearm and fired at the victim several times and sped off towards Maharlika Highway. Caronan was brought to the hospital where he was declared dead by Dr. Neil Patrick Famorca.
Police are conducting manhunt and follow-up investigation to determine the motive of the incident and identity of the gunman.
