Pope Francis appoints new bishop for Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan
Pope Francis has appointed current Archdiocese of Zamboanga Administrator and Auxiliary Bishop Moises Cuevas as the new bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro.

The Vatican announced Bishop Cuevas”new assignment on June 29, Thursday, coinciding with the celebration of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, which is also observed as Pope’s Day. Bishop Cuevas will succeed Bishop Warlito Cajandig who retired in 2022 because of health problems. The Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan has been vacant since November 2022 and has been under the watch of Fr. Nestor Adalia as its Apostolic Administrator. Pope Francis named Bishop Cuevas as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga in March 2020 and later as its Apostolic Administrator in August 2022 following the demise of its shepherd Archbishop Romulo Dela Cruz in December 2021. A native of Batangas City, Bishop Cuevas was born on Nov. 25, 1973. He was ordained priest of the Archdiocese of Zamboanga on Dec. 6, 2000 and became a bishop on Aug..24, 2020. With his new appointment, Bishop Cuevas will look after the spiritual welfare of more than 900,000 Catholics in the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan together with 70 priests in 23 parishes.
