Marcos said as she witnessed the oath-taking of the new set of officers of LGBT Pilipinas during the LGBT Pride Reception in Malacañang on June 29. According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the First Lady said that knowing her husband, the President will grant the wish of LGBT Pilipinas to have more representation in the bureaucracy, especially because of their help during the 2022 elections. "Knowing my husband, I'm sure he will grant the wish \*because he knows that you all campaigned for him, and he wouldn't be there without you guys," Marcos reportedly told the group. She added that with the help of the proposed advisory body, the group will be stronger than ever. The PCO said LGBT Pilipinas is proposing the creation of an advisory body or commission on LGBTQIA+ affairs under the Office of the President. It is seeking the First Lady's support in endorsing its proposal. Meanwhile, First Lady Marcos told the LGBTQIA+ community to always support one another, insisting there's strength and resilience in unity. With the absence of a national anti-discrimination law, the PCO said LGBT Pilipinas committed to helping local government units pass their respective ordinances on anti-discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and sexual characteristics (SOGIESC), such as those passed by the local government of Cebu City, Bacolod City, and Davao City. Established in June 2016, LGBT Pilipinas is the only SEC-registered national alliance of LGBTQIA+ organizations, networks, and allied groups nationwide. It has been working with the government to remove the barriers holding people back about sexual orientation and gender identity. The organization boasts more than 120,000 members from 76 of 81 provinces across the country. Last year, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) recommended that the Philippines pass a gender equality bill and other similar measures protecting the LGBTQIA+ community.
