Vice Ganda on her 10th sold-out concert: 'Naiyak ako'

At a glance

  • The show turned a bit serious when Vice and her dancers brought her mother Rosario Viceral on stage as Vice sang a medley of “Portrait of My Love” and “And I Love You So”. As a tribute to her, Vice proclaimed her the ‘real queen’ and was made to sit on a throne with a cape and crown. Rosario turned emotional.

Unkabogable star Vice Ganda expressed gratitude to her many followers for achieving a new milestone during her comedy-concert “Your Memejesty Queen VG” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on June 2.

“Naiyak ako. 10thAraneta concert na punong-puno. I am so blessed. Hindi lahat nakakapag-ten Araneta concerts di ba? Maraming, maraming, maraming salamat. My heart is full of joy. I am overwhelmed tonight,” said Vice during his opening spiel. (I am teary-eyed. It’s my 10thAraneta concert and it’s sold-out. I am so blessed. Not everyone can have 10 concerts at Araneta, right? Thank you very much.)

She, however, gave the audience, a fair warning. “Hindi ito pangkaraniwang concert na yung bida kakanta tapos magsasalita ng konti, tapos kakanta na naman, tapos iiyak ng konti tapos kakanta na naman. Hindi po ako ganun. Si Regine (Velasquez) po yun. Hindi rin po ako yung nagko-concert tapos kakanta, mananalangin, tapos kakanta, tapos magsasalita ng words of wisdom si Gary V po yun. Hindi po ako ganun,” joked Vice. (This is not your usual concert where the star will sing, then speak a little, then sing again, then cry a little, then sing again. I am not that. That’s Regine (Velasquez). I am also not the type who would have a concert, pray, then sing, and give some words of wisdom. That’s Gary V. I am not like that.)

“Ang show po ngayong gabi ay rated SSSSSSPG – Super, Super, Super, Sobra, Sobrang Strict na Parental Guidance. Sa mga hindi handa, sa mga conservative, sa mga very sensitive, sa mga politically correct, sa mga balat-sibuyas binibigyan ko kayo ng sampung segundo para tumayo at para mag-refund,” he continued with a 10-second countdown and went into full comedy bar mode with R-rated jokes she’s known for. (This show tonight is rated SSSSSSPG – Super, Super, Over, Over Strict Parental Guidance. To those who are not ready, to those who are conservative, politically correct, onion skinned I am giving you 10 seconds to stand and get a refund.)

Vice then told the audience about how as a 10-year-old pupil she was proclaimed “Declamation Queen”.  She then asked the audience, which included “It’s Showtime” co-hosts Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, Tyang Amy (Amy Perez) to act out her declamation piece “Isang Basong Tubig”.

Adding fun, Vice recounted in her fictitious account her erstwhile declamation competitors Ruffa Mae Quinto, Mommy Dionesia and a certain Kris; all of whom she mimicked. Vice’s impersonations were spot-on, and the crowd roared with laughter.

Meme Vice then called on three of her friends MC, Lassy, and Petite who traded jokes all in good fun. Quizzed about her knowledge in Science MC asked Vice, “Ano ang tawag sa mga stars na hindi na kumikinang? (What do you call stars that do not shine anymore?) Vice replied: “Lumipat. Yung mga lumipat” (Transferred. Those who transferred.) pertaining to ABS-CBN stars who moved out of the network after they lost the franchise.

But no one or nothing escapes Vice who poked fun at her mother whom she said looked like a graduate in a toga with her cape on. Vice asked Rosario to greet her ‘fellow graduates’ and she obliged: “Good evening, fellow graduates!”

“Ginagawa mo akong tanga,” Rosario jokingly told Vice. (You are making me look stupid.). She replied, “Okay lang yan basta kumikita tayo!” (That’s okay so long as we are making money.) Now we know where Vice got her sense of humor.

One of the highlights of the show was the guest appearance of Ion Perez, Vice’s husband who joined her in a performance of Eiffel 65’s “Blue” and Abba’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).

After their performance, Vice spoke to her husband and told him “What you are, what I am, and what we have is so amazingly beautiful. So, let’s not be bothered by their noise. Let’s just continue to love, so loud and proud. Let’s continue to love whatever happens, whatever it takes. At the end of the day, love wins.”

Ion replied, “I love you!” and gave Vice a long kiss on the lips. The two raised their middle fingers and the crowd went wild!

The four-hour show included guests Lady Morgana, Hashtag Zeus Collins, Tawag ng Tanghalan champion Jex de Castro, ‘Ate Girl’ Jackie Gonzaga, and the A-Team.

Spotted in the audience were Belle Mariano, Darren Espanto, Ogie Alcasid, Ogie Diaz, Ryan Bang, and Liz Uy, along with ABS-CBN executives Lauren Dyogi, Deo Endrinal, Cory Vidanes, and Carlo Katigbak.

With the success of her 10th concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, we would not be surprised if Vice would create a record for having the greatest number of concerts at the Big Dome. (Contributed by Andi Requintina)
