BUTUAN CITY – The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Southwestern Mindanao and Sulu Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or fatalities from a magnitude-4.6 that rocked the province before dawn on Saturday, June 3.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was recorded at 1:40 a.m. and its epicenter was pinpointed six kilometers (kms) west of Hadji Panglima Tahil, Sulu.
The tremor had a depth of 19 kms, Phivolcs said.
Intensity IV was registered in Jolo, Sulu while Intensity III in Zamboanga City.
Phivolcs instruments detected the earthquake at Intensity II in the city of Zamboanga.
Phivolcs expects no aftershocks from the earthquake.
Hours later at 5:40 a.m., a magnitude-4.3 tectonic earthquake was recorded and its epicenter was plotted 106 kms southwest of Balut Island, Sarangani), Davao Occidental with a depth of 24 kms.
No damage is expected or aftershocks are expected from this earthquake.
