7 cops nabbed for illegal detention of 12 individuals in Angeles City
CITY of San Fernando, Pampanga – The Police Regional Office-3 on Saturday, June 3, announced the arrest of seven police personnel allegedly involved in the illegal arrest, arbitrary detention, and extortion of 12 individuals.
Police Brig. Gen. Jose S. Hidalgo Jr., PRO-3 chief, said that the Luzon Field Unit-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (LFU-IMEG) Team 3, Angeles City Internal Affairs Service, and City Intelligence Unit of Angeles City Police Office nabbed the suspects on Friday, June 2.
Hidalgo said operating units conducted a random inspection of the custodial facility at the Angeles City Police Office Station 2 after they received information that a certain person was unlawfully arrested and detained there.
They also received information that some personnel of this police station allegedly demanded money from that individual.
During the inspection, it was found out that 12 others were currently detained without any cases filed against them.
Hidalgo reiterated their continuous commitment to the internal cleansing program that seeks to identify rogue PNP members.
Arrested personnel were immediately relieved from their posts and were to Camp Crame, Quezon City.
