PCG halts search, rescue on 6 missing crew of fishing vessel that sank off Davao Oriental

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has terminated its conduct of search and rescue operations on the six missing crew of FB Genesis 2 which sank off the waters of Bagangang town in Davao Oriental last week. In a statement, the PCG said the missing crew may have been trapped inside the vessel which is believed to be around 5,000 feet below sea level at 182 miles off Baganga town. The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao decided to terminate the search and rescue (SAR) operations today, 29 June 2023 — seven days after the maritime accident,” the PCG statement read. “However, the said PCG District will continue to alert transiting vessels for possible sightings of the six missing crew,” it added. The vessel has 23 crew on board, 14 of them were rescued by fishermen which passed by the area on June 22. Based on the statements of the survivors, they encountered a sudden change in sea conditions which caused their fishing boat to sink later. Three of the crew, however died, their cadavers were recovered near the area.  All the survivors, along with the three cadavers, were transported to General Santos City on June 25.
