Mayor Jeannie leads ‘Malabon Ahon Housing Project’ groundbreaking ceremony

Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and other city government officials broke ground on Thursday, June 29, for the “Malabon Ahon Housing Project” that will provide residents with safe, stable, more affordable, and convenient homes.

“Layunin natin na bigyan ng seguridad ang ating mga pamilya. Sa pamamagitan ng proyektong ito, nagbibigay tayo ng solusyon na magbibigay ng tahanan sa mga nangangailangan at magpapalakas sa ating komunidad bilang isang pamilya. Ang bawat bahay na itatayo ay simbolo ng ating pagkakaisa at pagmamahal sa kapwa (It is our goal to provide our families security. Through this project, we are providing a solution that will give homes to those in need and strengthen our community as a family. Every house that will be built is a symbol of our unity and love for each other)," Sandoval said.

The housing project will be constructed on St. James Street at Goldendale Subdivision, Barangay Tinajeros in the city. It will have two mid-rise five-story buildings with 122 units of housing that will stand on 2,300 square meters of land.

Each 24-square-meter studio-type residence unit will have a kitchen, a bathroom, and a space for doing laundry.

The local government allotted P300,000,000 from its funds for the project, the mayor said.

Sandoval added that they chose to construct the buildings in the area so  residents will have easy access to schools, health facilities, and other services needed.

The mayor placed a copy of a Manila Bulletin newspaper along with the blueprint of the housing project inside the time capsule which she, Malabon City Police Station Chief Col. Amante Daro, and city government officials buried in the ground to symbolize the start of the
project’s construction.

During an interview with reporters, the mayor said that it is her administration’s priority to provide homes for the residents.

“Hindi lang naman ito ang magiging proyekto natin. Magkakaroon pa po sa buong Malabon dahil ang gusto po nating mangyari ay in-city relocation para malapit sila sa kanilang kamag-anak, malapit sila sa kanilang pangkabuhayan (This will not be our only project. There will be more in the whole of Malabon because we want in-city relocation of residents so that they are close to their relatives, they are close to their livelihood),” Sandoval said.

She shared that they are aiming to finish the housing project within six months. It will be followed by the construction of around 10 more buildings for housing projects in Malabon.

Residents who want to become beneficiaries of the project should go to the Malabon City Hall for assistance, she added.

“Sa mga mabibigyan ng bagong tahanan, hinihikayat ko kayong ituring ito bilang isang malaking biyaya at mahalagang responsibilidad. Ang pagkakaroon ng sariling tahanan ay pagsisimula ng bagong yugto sa inyong buhay. Sa bawat sulok ng inyong bagong tahanan, palaganapin ang pagmamahal at pagkakaisa. Gawin itong isang lugar ng pag-aaruga, pagkatuto, at pag-unlad. Maging modelo kayo ng maayos na pamumuhay at pagkakapit-bisig sa inyong komunidad (To those who will be given a new home, I encourage you to consider it as a great blessing and an important responsibility. Having your own home is the beginning of a new phase in your life. In every corner of your new home, spread love and harmony. Make it a place of nurturing, learning, and growth. Be a model of good living and solidarity in your community),” Sandoval said.

Present during the event were City Administrator Alexander Rosete, city councilors, department heads, and employees, guests, and some residents.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, June 28, they city mayor also led the inauguration of the rehabilitated drainage system and roads on Gabriel and Florante Streets in Barangay Hulong Duhat, and Mangostan Road in Barangay Potrero.

The local government said that the project included pothole patching, resealing of paved roads, re-gravelling, and the creation of a proper drainage system.

It added that the upgrade and rehabilitation project is expected to help ease traffic and address flooding concerns in the city.
