Mayor Honey urges public to get 2nd Covid-19 booster dose
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna- Pangan urged the public to get the second Covid-19 booster shot ahead of the rollout of bivalent vaccines for the general public.
In her social media address, The Capital Report, on Thursday, June 29, the mayor lamented the low turnout in booster immunization in the city, especially among the senior citizens or A2 category as only 20.19 percent were vaccinated with the second booster shot.
Lacuna-Pangan said that the A2 category will be the next to receive the bivalent vaccine after the A1 category or healthcare workers living or working in the city.
"Kailangan po mayroon muna kayong second booster dose bago kayo makapag-avail ng bago nating bakuna – bivalent vaccine, kasi 'yong bivalent para na po iyong third vaccine (You must be vaccinated with second booster dose before you can avail of our new vaccine - bivalent vaccine, because the bivalent serves as your third vaccine)," the mayor said.
The local chief executive rolled out the bivalent vaccination for the healthcare workers at Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila last Tuesday, June 27.
She noted that there were 32,000 bivalent vaccines allocated for the city that will be first administered to the A1 category as stated in the Department Memorandum (DM) of the Department of Health (DOH).
Under DM No. 2023-078 or the Interim Guidelines on the Management and Administration of Covid-19 Vaccine Pfizer Bivalent, the bivalent vaccine will be administered to healthcare workers who have received their second booster shot at least four months prior.
"So ano ba ibig sabihin ulit ng bivalent vaccine, iyan po ay vaccine na tumutugon sa original strain at omicron strain ng Covid-19. So dalawa po, two in one na po ang bakuna na iyan (So what does bivalent vaccine do, it is a vaccine that responds to the original and omicron strains of Covid-19. So that vaccine is two in one)," she explained.
The city government also reminded the public of the vaccination booths set in 44 healthcare centers located around the city's six districts.
For the issuance of vaccination certificates, the city government said the residents can go to the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) located on the second floor of San Miguel Health Center on Nicanor Padilla Street, San Miguel, Manila.
