Manila LGU showcases local facilities, services for DILG's governance award

The local government of Manila showcased its local service facilities during the annual assessment of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award. The two-day evaluation held last June 26 and 27 included a table assessment held at the Philippine Normal University (PNU) on Taft Avenue in Manila. An on-site validation was also conducted to check the accuracy of the documents presented during the table assessment. Charlie Dungo, head of the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Arts of Manila (DTCAM), was present during the assessment to lead the presentation of the local facilities and services. "The City Government of Manila is committed to providing excellent public service and upholding good governance principles beyond the perspective of award," he said. DILG Manila Director John A. Visca said "the impact of the performance of the LGU will affect the quality of life of the community." DILG said the SGLG award symbolizes integrity, good performance, and a progressive assessment system that gives distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas. During the table assessment, representatives from the city departments presented documents that show their performance in its respective services. The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), under the SGLG area of disaster preparedness, proudly showed equipment and facilities, including rescue tools for various disasters. DILG validators also visited other city facilities during the on-site assessment, such as Baseco evacuation center, Ospital ng GAT Andres, Vitas Skate Park, Department of Public Service (DPS)-City Materials Recovery Facility, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW)-Rac Center, MDRRMO-Kartilya Base, and Manila City Hall-Bureau of Permits. The city government received valuable commendations as well as recommendations to improve services in the city departments.
