Defending champion Creamline hardly broke a sweat after a 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 rout of Premier Volleyball League newcomer Gerflor in the Invitational Conference at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Thursday, June 29.
It is a 2-0 start for the Cool Smashers in Pool A against the debuting Defenders after leading from start until endgame with a thorough drubbing.

Tots Carlos, who finished with a huge 24-point outing in Creamline’s opening game against Chery Tiggo Crossovers on Tuesday, carried out the onslaught anew with 15 points on 13 attacks, a block and an ace. Jema Galanza, for her part, added 10 points built on eight attacks and two aces. The Cool Smashers got over their slow start and went on to introduce themselves to the Defenders in dominant fashion. After taking the opening set, Creamline immediately jumped to a double-digit advantage of 17-7 in the second set and this time kept the gap wide en route to a two sets to none lead. The third set was no different, if not better for the Cool Smashers, as they zoomed to a 13-point lead, 22-9, on Ced Domingo’s quick attack. From then on, Creamline proved to be too much for Gerflor as the firepower of Bernadeth Pons put the Cool Smashers at match point, 24-12, before Janette Panaga denied Janine Navarro at the net to come away with the win. “Medyo slow start kami pero naka-recover naman kami. Talagang nag-contribute ‘yong mga players, so happy kami sa game na to at happy kami sa panalo,” said Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses. Meanwhile, not one Defender breached the double-digit mark, with Justine Dorog and Andrea Marzan finishing with six points each in the losing effort. Like its fellow debutant Farm Fresh Foxies, Gerflor received a rude welcome from one of the league’s top favorites as it absorbed its first loss in the tournament.
