Commercial flights for Chinese tourists bound for Boracay resume

ILOILO CITY — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Wednesday, June 28, that commercial flights for Chinese tourists to world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province have resumed.

(DOT) “We warmly welcome back to Kalibo (Boracay) Philippines, Loong Air,” said Kalibo International Airport (KIA) in a  Facebook post. “It’s the second Chinese carrier to have direct flights from mainland China (to Kalibo),” the post added. The resumption of commercial flights to Boracay from China came some two months after a chartered flight last April that carried 180 Chinese tourists who went to the country’s most famous beach destination. KIA Manager John William Fuerte said that Loong Air has round-trip flights to and from the Chinese cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Wenzhou. Before, Chinese and other foreign tourists had to go through Manila to get to the resort-island of Boracay due to the protocols enforced by the government. Tourists from China were the No. 1 foreign visitors of Boracay prior to the pandemic.  Boracay had 434,175 Chinese tourists in 2019. Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said that the local government is expecting Chinese tourist arrivals to surge this year as pandemic restrictions have been totally lifted. More than one million tourists, with almost 200,000 foreign, have visited Boracay from January 1 to June 15.
