KABUL, Afghanistan - A total of 2,178 prisoners were released before Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals for Muslims, the Afghan Supreme Court said Thursday on its twitter page.
   The prisoners were freed based on the decree of the caretaker government's supreme leader Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, the court twitted.
   A total of 489 prisoners were given reduced jail period on the occasion, according to the court.
   More than 2,000 prisoners were also released on the occasion of this year's Eid al-Fitr. Â
