Afghanistan releases over 2,000 prisoners for Eid al-Adha: supreme court

KABUL, Afghanistan - A total of 2,178 prisoners were released before Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals for Muslims, the Afghan Supreme Court said Thursday on its twitter page. Â Â Â The prisoners were freed based on the decree of the caretaker government's supreme leader Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, the court twitted. Â Â Â A total of 489 prisoners were given reduced jail period on the occasion, according to the court. Â Â Â More than 2,000 prisoners were also released on the occasion of this year's Eid al-Fitr.Â Â
