Thousands of Muslims gather at Zamboanga City sports complex for Eid'l Adha celebration

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex here on Wednesday, June 28, for the traditional prayers on the occasion of Eid’l Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. MUSLIMS in Zamboanga City say their prayers during the celebration of Eid'l Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice, at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Complex.  (Zamboanga City PIO photo) At least 4,000 Muslims were accommodated in the grandstand, based on crowd estimates released by the City Administrator’s Office. Worshippers also gathered at the Paseo del Mar and in mosques all over this city for the celebration based on the story of the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Ismail) as an act of obedience to God's command. Before Abraham could sacrifice his son, however, God provided him with a lamb which he was supposed to kill. The use of the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex for the celebration and the complex’s vicinity for temporary parking spaces was granted by the city government to Muslim worshippers who used to gather on RT Lim Boulevard for their traditional prayers. Religious leaders exhorted the faithful to be steadfast in their faith in line with that demonstrated by the prophet Abraham when he agreed to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command. Muslim families come together in celebration during Eid'l Adha, a day which had been declared as a regular holiday under Republic Act 9849.
