Motorcycle rider dies, kin injured in Negros road mishap

BACOLOD CITY – A woman died while her relative was injured after their motorcycle overshot and crashed into a tree in Sitio Peñahon, Barangay Mina-utok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Monday, June 26. Police identified the fatality as Mary Ann Dantes, 27, of Barangay Marcelo, while the injured was identified as Jay-ar Barrientos, 27, of Barangay Marcelo. Calatrava police chief Police Major Ronald Santillan said that Barrientos, who was allegedly speeding, reportedly lost control over his motorcycle while negotiating a curved part of the road. Santillan said the two victims suffered injuries in the head and body. However, Dantes was declared dead in a hospital, he added. Victims were not wearing helmets, according to Santillan.
