Son Dongwoon, a member of K-pop boy band Highlight (formerly BEAST), announced that he is getting married.
In an Instagram post on June 27, Dongwoon, 32, said he is getting married to a non-celebrity girlfriend in September.

“It's been a while since I left you a handwritten letter like this. It may be sudden news. I am very nervous and cautious even now because I know very well that you may be surprised and sad at the same time. However, I want to convey it to you first than anyone else, so I am going to muster up the courage to write it,” he wrote.
He revealed, “Thankfully, I met a person who understands and cares about me a lot, and at some point I thought that I wanted to be with her in the future, so I decided to hold a ceremony in September.”
“The person to be with is not someone who does the same thing as me, so the ceremony will be held quietly with only family and close acquaintances,” Dongwoo said.
He told fans, “I first met you when I was 19 years old. I have been the maknae [youngest] at home and on the team, and I am truly grateful to you all for sending more support and caring for me as the maknae.”
“Even during my debut and even now, I am a person who lacks a lot, but thanks to all of you who gave me unimaginable love, I was able to grow to this extent and know that I am today. I am also grateful to the members of Highlight who supported and believed in me with the same heart. I will not forget my gratitude to everyone and will try many times more than I have done so far,” he said.
Dongwoon added, “With a more mature appearance, I will repay everyone's love with Highlight Dongwoon, who does my best in my position. Thank you for reading this clumsy post to the end.”
Around Us Entertainment, Highlight’s agency, also issued a statement about his marriage.
“Our artist Highlight’s Son Dong-woon is getting married to a non-celebrity lover in September,” it said.
“This ceremony will be held privately with family and close acquaintances. In consideration of the non-celebrity bride-to-be and both families, we ask for the understanding of the fans for not disclosing specific details, including the date and location,” it said.
It said, “Even after his marriage, Son Dong-woon plans to continue to be active as a Highlight member, singer-songwriter, and all-round entertainer. We ask for your continued support and love for Son Dong-woon, who will greet you with a more mature image.”
“Please send warm congratulations and blessings to Son Dong-woon and his family, who are at the starting point of a new journey,” it said.
Highlight (then BEAST) debuted in 2009. They are now composed of Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang and Son Dong-woon.
Dongwoon will join the list of K-pop idols who got married including iKON’s Bobby, EXO’s Chen, Big Bang’s Taeyang and FT Island’s Choi Min-hwan.
