Hontiveros urges PBBM to reconsider Gadon's appointment following disbarment
Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros on Wednesday, June 28 called on President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to reconsider the appointment of Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon as presidential adviser on poverty alleviation.
Hontiveros made the call after the Supreme Court, by a unanimous vote of 15-0 disbarred Gadon for his “misogynistic, sexist and abusive remarks” against journalist Raissa Robles.
Gadon’s dismissal stemmed from a viral video clip where he repeatedly cursed and uttered profanity against the journalist.
“I ask the President to reconsider the appointment of Larry Gadon. Not only was he disbarred, he was also cited in direct contempt by the Supreme Court voting 15-0,” Hontiveros said in a statement.
“A disgraced former attorney does not inspire confidence in the Cabinet,” she also stressed.
Gadon, she also said, holds neither title nor expertise to justify his appointment.
The senator also said that pushing through with the decision to appoint him would only demoralize the bureaucracy by incentivizing an official whom the Court unanimously does not trust.
“This will be a slap in the face for our legal professionals, and yet another black eye on good governance so early on in the current administration,” the lawmaker said.
“I also laud the Supreme Court for its indignation about misogyny and sexism in our institutions, which is vital to the government's integrity,” Hontiveros also said.
