The Employers Confederation of Employers (ECOP) has called for an all-of government and all-of-society approach to address the crucial issues in a transition towards a more sustainable and humane-centered work environment amid technological advancements.
This was the gist of the six-point resolutions passed by the 44th National Conference of Employers (NCE) with the theme “Human-centered Transitions for a Just and Sustainable Workplace” at the Manila Hotel on June 27-28.

To achieve a sustainable workplace amid technological advancements, the NCE said that government must recognize, respect and appoint genuine employer and worker representatives nominated by their legitimate and most representative organizations in tripartite and other government bodies with policy-making functions affecting employers and workers based on the scheme of tripartism in order to provide a stronger voice on common concerns shared by businesses and employees.
The NCE said that ECOP, as the single voice of employers on labor and social policy issues in the Philippines, calls upon government, industry associations, enterprises, and workers organizations to prioritize the mutual rights and well-being of the social partners in all workplace transitions, and ensure their active participation in social dialogues.
The resolution also called on both employers and business organizations to reduce their environmental impact, conserve resources, promote responsible business conduct, exercise their societal responsibilities, accept and respect individual differences due to creed, race, or gender orientation, and adopt the SDG, ESG, DE&I and other sustainability frameworks.
The NCE urged employees and workers organizations to actively participate in education,
training, reskilling, and upskilling programs provided by government and employers, that empower employees to enhance their employment security, adapt to changing job requirements, embrace sustainable practices, and foster a culture of lifelong learning.
Government agencies should develop and enforce policies that support a just transition towards sustainable workplaces, including respect for mutual rights of workers and employers, occupational health and safety standards, and incentives for productive and sustainable business models.
In addition, the employers’ group said that social partners should continue the multi-stakeholder collaborations and partnerships among employers, governments, labor and civil society organizations, the academe, and international organizations like the ILO, IOE, and ACE, to help drive knowledge sharing, best practices exchange, and collective action towards sustainable workplace transitions.
