DPWH-Quezon First DEO completes 3 slope protection projects

LUCBAN, Quezon – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Quezon First Engineering District Office (DEO) has completed the construction of three slope protection projects on the Famy-Real-Infanta-Dinahican Port Road, Marikina-Infanta Road, and Mauban-Tignoan Road.

District Engineer Salvador Salvana said these projects were funded and started under the 2019 General Appropriation Act and had an annual allocation until they were completed.

Salvana told the DPWH Region 4-A that the projects consist of the application of an active slope protection system using a high-tensile wire mesh equipped with deep anchorage for slope stabilization.

This technology is environmentally friendly as its construction retains the standing trees present in the area and also makes way for other vegetation to grow, Salvana said.

These projects ensure a safe and reliable national road system and meet the requirement based on agreements and guidelines on asset preservation programs of the DPWH.

Salvana added 59 slope protection projects were constructed from Fiscal Year 2019 to 2023 under the jurisdiction of the Quezon 1st District Engineering Office.

These projects aim to provide slope stabilization measures for landslide-prone sections in the Real-Infanta-General Nakar (REINA) area which promote accessibility and continuity of the transport of goods and services along the national roads in times of natural calamity, especially during tropical storms.

These projects utilize environment-friendly engineering intervention of slope protection works and provides additional safety for road users and the general public, Salvana said.
