Olivarez wins UCBL pre-season opener

Iverson Aquiatan and Lance de Leon scored 12 points each as Olivarez College demolished Philippine Women’s University, 76-55, in the opener of the PG Flex Linoleum UCBL Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, June 27, at the SGS Gym in Quezon City. The Sea Lions started to pull away midway in the second frame as Aquiatan and De Leon shattered PWU’s defense time and again with their powerful inside plays to give the newcomer a rude welcome in the pre-season tournament. So tight was Olivarez’s defense that no PWU player scored more than 10 points as John Espiritu and Jireh Alcala were limited to nine points each. PWU also turned the ball 25 times Olivarez underscored its dominance by took charge of rebounds against PWU, 52-36, that resulted to 12 second chance points. Meantime, UAAP champion Ateneo launches its title drive against San Sebastian on Thursday, June 30.
