MIAA urged to provide more immigration processing space at NAIA amid long queues

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco has urged the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to provide the agency with more space at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to alleviate inconveniences that are regularly faced by travelers.
Tansingco's request comes in response to reports of passengers enduring long queues at NAIA.
According to Tansingco, the queues are a consequence of the increased transfer of flights to NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 after the suspension of international flights at Terminal 2.
He said the unprecedented surge in international travelers at both terminals resulted in long queues.
Recent data from the Bureau of Immigration reveals a significant rise of daily average international travelers at NAIA Terminal 1 since June 16.
The terminal now records 28,956 passengers per day, marking a 48.1 percent increase from the previous average of 19,553 passengers prior to the transfer.
Similarly, NAIA Terminal 3 has experienced a substantial surge in international passenger traffic, with a daily average of 33,682 travelers since June 16 which  reflected a 19.58 percent rise from the pre-transfer average of 28,168 passengers.
"We have augmented our immigration officers to cater to the needs of travelers," stated Tansingco.
Additionally, Tansingco mentioned the deployment of at least eight mobile counters per terminal to facilitate smoother queues.
Tansingco said immigration areas in other countries are more spacious to accommodate more counters and passengers.
In response, airport management have already committed to expand the immigration area.
