The Manila local government started the administration of Covid-19 bivalent vaccines to its healthcare workers on Tuesday, June 27.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna- Pangan spearheaded the bivalent vaccination among the healthcare workers at Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila.
The city government said the components of the new bivalent shot supply the human immunity system with more sufficient protection against Covid-19 and its transmissible variants and will be considered the third booster dose for the eligible population.
It said the rollout of bivalent vaccines among A1 category or healthcare workers living or working in the city is part of the released Department Memorandum (DM) of the Department of Health (DOH).
Under DM No. 2023-078 or the Interim Guidelines on the Management and Administration of Covid-19 Vaccine Pfizer Bivalent, the bivalent vaccine will be administered to healthcare workers who have received their second booster shot at least four months prior.
Meanwhile, Lacuna- Pangan also led the inauguration of the new blood bank in Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila.
"Kailangan po naming magdonate kayo ng dugo kasi balewala po itong blood bank kung wala naman pong magdo-donate (We need you to donate blood because this blood bank is useless if no one donates)," the mayor said.
She thanked the Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation Inc. and other city's private partners that contributed to the construction of the new blood bank.
