The cash incentive was promised to Edzelle Mhay Naquila when she paid Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado a courtesy visit on Monday, June 26. “The cash incentive will come from the provincial government. We will do our best that it will be given during the State-of-the-Province Address on July 21,” Aumentado said. Aumentado said the province is proud of Naquila’s achievement that saw her garner the highest score among the 708 examinees who hurdled the exam. The Professional Regulation Commission said 1,026 examinees took the licensure exam. “Congratulations to Edzelle. We hope that her feat would serve as an inspiration to the Boholanos,” Aumentado said. The 23-year-old Naquila, a resident of Barangay Desamprados, Calape, Bohol, is a graduate of the Southwestern University in Cebu City. She topped the licensure exam with an 89.90 percent passing rate. Naquila said she could have not pulled off the feat if not for her parents. “I have nothing but a grateful heart for all their sacrifices and support for my studies,” Naquila said when interviewed by radio station dyLA. She is the second in a brood of seven. Her father Edsel is a municipal worker in Calape assigned to the waterworks department while her mother Marrieta is teacher at the Calape National High School. Edzelle said she saw how her parents work hard just so they can send her and her siblings to school. The sacrifices of her parents motivated Edzelle to do good in school and to ensure that she could focus fully on her studies, she turned down all her suitors. “I did not entertain them because for me, it would just be a distraction. I turned down all my suitors because I was busy with academics,” she said. As a student, Edzelle was an achiever. She graduated as a valedictorian at Calape Central Elementary School and with honors at the Tagbilaran City Science High School. She was a full scholar when she studied at Southwestern University. Edzelle shared that she did not expect that she would top the exam although she aspired to make it to the Top 10. “Until now, when I look at the list of topnotchers, I still could not believe that I am the Top 1,” she said.
