ZAMCELCO to boost power stability further

Utility firm Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) has launched its campaign to improve its facilities with the aim of ensuring greater power stability by 2025.

In a statement, the firm said its “GetSET25 (Stable Electricity Twenty-25) Zamboanga” campaign is the consolidation of the new management’s commitment to sustaining the overall improvements to the city’s electricity situation.

"In launching GetSET25 Zamboanga, we aim to strengthen electricity stability in our area while we continue to address the current challenges of the Philippine energy sector," said Edwin Joseph Galvez, President of Crown Investment Holdings, which has a stake in ZAMCELCO as its investor-manager.

He added that, “Through collaborative efforts, strategic improvements in the city grid, and a focus on providing reliable and affordable electricity, we're poised to enhance the quality of life for member-consumers and contribute to the development of the Zamboanga region.”

ZAMCELCO Chief Management Officer Atty. Rommel Agan said the firm’s initiatives to achieve its goals include the installation of additional transformer units, construction of new substations, procurements of service vehicles, and better ways to improve systems reliability through clearing activities, obstruction removal, and more.

To evaluate all the needed improvements in ZAMCELCO’s services, he said “we’ve also began the inventory of the whole franchise area.”

“If anyone can look back to what the situation was before 2019, I’m sure you’d agree that the new ZAMCELCO has already begun implementing upgrades to the power system,” Agan noted.

Meanwhile, ZAMCELCO President Jeffrey Russ Taripe said “I would like to commend each and every member-consumer owners for their unwavering support in making our cooperative an illumination of power reliability in our community.”

ZAMCELCO General Manager Engr. Gannymede Tiu added that, “The participation of our member-consumers is absolutely valuable to the success of GetSET25 Zamboanga.”

ZAMCELCO Executive Committee Chairman Atty. Jomar Castillo said the firm has succeeded in keeping its generation charges low–the second cheapest in Mindanao—due to the new management’s efforts in “managing the supply contracts of the cooperative to achieve the most favorable power mix for our customers.”
