TINGLAYAN, Kalinga – A total of P2.1-million worth of marijuana plants from two plantation sites were destroyed by elements of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office in Barangay Buscalan here on Sunday, June 25.
Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., Police Regional Office-Cordillera director, said the eradication operation was covered by Oplan SOU-COR Oplan Bagsik which sought to clear drug-affected barangays here, particularly Barangay Buscalan.
Some 10,500 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants in a 1,050-square meter land with a total value of P2.1 million were uprooted and destroyed during the operation.
No cultivator was arrested during the operation and government troops said they will continue to monitor the area for other possible plantations.
Cultivation of marijuana is prohibited under Section 16, Article II, of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
