Norman Miguel is set to return as the National University women's volleyball head coach as he replaces Karl Dimaculangan at the helm for the UAAP Season 86.

The school announced Miguel’s reinstatement on its official Facebook page on Monday, June 26.

Miguel, who was then calling the shots until the shortened UAAP Season 82, is back to mentor both the women’s and girls’ squads come the volleyball season.

It was Dimaculangan, though, who steered the Lady Bulldogs to their first-ever title in Season 84 after completing a 16-match sweep and ending a 65-year drought.

The season also saw the emergence of the women’s volleyball tournament’s first Rookie-Most Valuable Player in Bella Belen.

NU went on to stretch the winning streak to 20 games before the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses snapped the perfect run in five thrilling sets in their first-round elimination encounter in Season 85.

Miguel’s two-season collegiate tenure was cut short in Nov. 2020 when he took a coaching assistant role for the Akari Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

The veteran coach will inherit a team who suffered a finals defeat at the hands of the De La Salle Lady Spikers in Belen, Alyssa Solomon and Vange Alinsug.
