LPA, ITCZ to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms to parts of Luzon

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over parts of Luzon due to the low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, June 27. The LPA, which is embedded within the ITCZ, was last seen 260 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon around 3 a.m., Tuesday. According to PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda, the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression, but it could bring rains to several areas in eastern Luzon. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Meanwhile, the rest of the country can expect “fair weather,” with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and the possibility of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms because of the ITCZ and localized thunderstorms. PAGASA also advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, which often bring brief but heavy rains, as these could cause landslides or flash floods, particularly in vulnerable areas.
