Ssn Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora administered Agcaoili's oath of office together with San Juan City Rep. Bel Zamora and other city government officials during its flag-raising ceremony at the city hall.
According to the mayor, the appointment adheres to the provisions outlined in Section 21 of Republic Act No. 9388 or the San Juan City Charter, which states that in the event of a permanent vacancy in the Office of the Vice Mayor, the highest-ranking Sanggunian member assumes the role.
"While we continue to mourn the untimely passing of my dear friend Vice Mayor Warren Villa, the Office of the Vice Mayor must continue to function. I have full confidence in Coun. Agcaoili to fill the void left by our late Vice Mayor and carry on his legacy," Zamora explained.
Agcaoili vowed to give San Juaneños the public service they need and deserve.
"Mga kababayan, buong pagpapakumbaba kong tinatanggap ang aking bagong katungkulan bilang inyong pangalawang punong lungsod. Samahan nyo po muna akong pasalamatan at bigyang pugay ang ating mahal na na Vice Mayor Warren Villa sa kanyang naging dedikasyon at paglilingkod sa ating mahal na lungsod simula 2010 (To my fellow San Juaneños, I humbly accept my new position as your vice mayor. Let's all give thanks and honor to our beloved Vice Mayor Warren Villa for his dedication and service to our city since 2010)," Agcaoili said.
"Sya po ay mananatiling buhay sa ating puso at isipan. At sya ay mananatiling inspirasyon sa ating lahat sa ating paglilingkod sa ating lungsod (He will forever be in our hearts and minds. He will also remain as our inspiration in our service to the city)," he added.
Villa died of natural causes on Father's Day, June 18. He was 52.
Wattah! Wattah! Festival
Meanwhile, Zamora urged the public to stay tuned for the city's activities lined up for the rest of the week in celebration of Wattah Wattah Festival, which were moved after he passed Executive Order No. 151, Series of 2023, declaring a week-long mourning period for Villa. These include rap battles and a night market taking place every evening from June 26 to July 1 at Pinaglabanan Shrine, a Voltes V Movie Film Showing on June 29 in partnership with GMA Network, a Pistahang Barangay Concert hosted by Barangay LS 97.1 on June 30, the Wattah Wattah Street Dancing and Santong Tao Competitions featuring Darren Espanto and Maymay Entrata in the morning, the Nutrition Month Launch and Distribution of Newborn Kits and a Family Zumba Exercise all happening on July 1. There will also be the Makabagong San Juan and JCI Manila Blood Drive for Pets on July 2. "It will be a bustling week for us, as we have arranged numerous activities for our constituents as part of the Wattah Wattah Festival celebration, compensating for the absence of the traditional water dousing due to El Niño. While we won't have the customary basaan this year, we are organizing more events that will greatly benefit our people's well-being, overall health, and provide them with entertainment," the mayor said.
