Police identified the victim as Junelyn Aligada, alias “Tata,” of Barangay 6.
Police Capt. Paul Vincent Pendon, head of Police Station 2, said they are waiting for the result of an autopsy to determine the injuries of the victim.
Pendon said that four gunshots were heard by some residents in the area on Sunday night, June 25. However, they ignored it, assuming that it was just part of the fireworks in a nearby birthday party.
The following day, the victim’s body was found in the area, which police considered as isolated since the area has lots of grass and without any houses.
Prior to the discovery of the victim’s body, the victim and her son were in a computer shop, when the victim told her son that she will go out for a while.
Pendon said that it’s possible that the victim discreetly met someone in the area for a supposed transaction.
He said the victim was previously arrested for a drug offense and was released after she served her sentence in 2018.
Aligada was again arrested in a buy-bust operation, along with her son here last year.
However, her case for conspiracy in the alleged illegal drug trade was dismissed, while her son was later released and was placed under probation, according to Pendon.
Pendon said they are initially looking at the incident as drug-related, but added they will continue to probe the case to determine other possible angles.
The incident came two days after a shooting incident happened in the area of Police Station 2 on Saturday, June 24, wherein a driver of a modernized passenger jeepney was injured.
