The Philippine Blu Boys suffered back-to-back defeats against fancied squads in the 2023 Men’s Softball Asia Cup in Kochi, Japan on Monday, June 26.
The Blu Boys first absorbed a stinging 9-5 defeat against Singapore in the morning before succumbing to a formidable Japanese crew, 6-0. The Filipinos actually came into the match against the Singaporeans armed with twin victories over India and Chinese Taipei the day before, but saw their rivals cruise to a quick 7-0 lead in the first inning. The Blu Boys strung together five straight runs to cut the deficit, but it was not enough against the 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalists. “While it was a challenging turn of events for our team, we remain hopeful for our upcoming matches,” said Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President Jean Henri Lhuillier. The Blu Boys will next face Hong Kong on Tuesday, June 27, to keep themselves on track of the title.
