Hundreds join advocacy march vs illegal drugs in Pasig City

* Around 670 Pasigueño participants joined the “Lakad Laban sa Droga para sa Bida” advocacy march on Saturday, June 24, in celebration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) in Pasig City. The IDADAIT 2023, themed "People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention,” brought together anti-illegal drugs advocates and stakeholders in Pasig to testify their support for the city’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Some residents of the 30 barangays of Pasig, the Pasig City Scholars, Boy Scout of the Philippines- Pasig, Girl Scout of the Philippines- Pasig, Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo- Pineda (KKDAT-Pineda), Philippine National Police- Pasig (PNP- Pasig), and other Anti-Drugs Advocate in Pasig joined the parade. The march, which began at Plaza Bonifacio, traversing through Caruncho Avenue, F. Manalo Street, San Augustine Street and ended at the City Hall Quadrangle, aimed to help raise awareness and show solidarity for the cause. After the march, a brief program was held to highlight the "Kabataan Kontra Droga laban sa Korapsyon,” which focuses on the youth’s involvement in spurring the spread and use of illegal drugs in the city. Speakers from various barangays and civil society organizations (CSOs) also delivered their testimonies declaring their active participation in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.

Eastern Police District (EPD) Director Brig. Gen. Wilson Asueta also spoke at the event, saying that the IDADAIT celebration is a reminder for all to continue the fight against illegal drugs. "Patuloy na bumababa na ang affectation ng ating mga barangay dito sa salot na droga (The affectation of drugs continues to decrease in our barangays)," Asueta said. "Hindi po natin tinitigilan ang kampanya laban sa droga. Araw-araw po mayroon kaming anti-drugs operation at every week meron po tayong tatlo o apat na tao na kinukulong na involved sa drugs (We are not stopping the campaign against illegal drugs. Everyday, we have anti-drug operations and every week we have three or four people who are arrested for being involved in drugs),” he added. Asueta encouraged the public to continue working with the authorities and “unite to fight against illegal drugs.” The back-to-back activity was led by the Pasig City Anti-Drugs Abuse Office (PCADAO), in partnership with different government agencies and organizations in Pasig, the EPD, and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
