Go cited the role of geodetic engineers during the recent 48th Annual National Directorate Meeting and Convention of the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, Inc (GEPI). In his speech, Go acknowledged the contributions of geodetic engineers in nation-building, particularly in mapping, surveying, and land management. "I commend the GEPI for its continuous efforts in advancing the geodetic engineering profession and ensuring the highest standards of practice in our country. The work you do contributes profoundly to the sustainable development of our communities, bolsters infrastructure projects, aids in disaster risk reduction, and is central to the preservation of our natural resources,” Go said, during the event held last Friday, June 23. Go drew attention to the challenges geodetic engineers face, as he underscored the importance of passing into law, Senate Bill No. 1181, or the proposed Philippine Building Act, which he filed. “Marami akong kaibigan na mga geodetic engineer. Matagal po akong nagtrabaho sa city hall, mga taga-assessors... marami po akong kaibigan (I have many friends who are geodetic engineers. I worked for a time at the city hall. I know some of them at the assessors office. I have many friends),” Go shared. According to Go, geodetic engineers face serious challenges that is why it is important to pass his proposed measure, Senate Bill No. 1181, also known as the Philippine Building Act. SB 1181, he said, aims to strengthen the regulation of planning, design, construction, occupancy, and maintenance of public and private buildings and structures. The bill's ultimate goal is to increase building resilience against both natural and human-induced disasters, Go explained. Nevertheless, the senator assured that he is open to suggestions on how to amend existing laws if necessary and pledged his support to assist the geodetic engineering profession. "Kung mayroon pong dapat i-amend, bukas po ang aking opisina kung ano po ang makakatulong para sa inyong lahat. Bagama't isang boto lang po ako sa Senado, rest assured po na tutulong po ako sa abot ng aking makakaya (If there is anything that needs to be amended, my office is open to see what can help you all. Although I only have one vote in the Senate, rest assured that I will help as much as I can),” the lawmaker said.
