The 31-year-old former world champion unleashed vicious body shots to send his Colombian rival on his knee with 21 seconds left in the fifth round. Referee Charlie Fitch stopped the contest and awarded the knockout victory to the Filipino bet after Soto went down for the second time. The win improved Ancajas’ record to 34-3-2 with 23 KOs as he recovered from a pair of defeats against current champion Fernando Daniel Martinez last year. It also put him in line for a title shot next. Soto, for his part, absorbed his seventh straight defeat and dropped to 22-13, 12 KOs. This was the first time that Ancajas fought at 122 lbs after spending much of his career at 115 lbs where he was the IBF champion for a long time.
