Acuzar orders DHSUD regional directors to expedite mass housing implementation
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar has instructed all regional directors to expedite the implementation of affordable mass housing projects in their respective areas.
During a meeting with the regional directors and their key staff on Wednesday, June 22, Acuzar said the active and aggressive measures by the regional directors serve as a guarantee to address the 6.5 million housing backlogs by 2028.
“It is important that all our programs and plans of action are synchronized. Let us all be inspired and always remember that we uplift the dignity of every Filipino family that would benefit from the housing program," said Acuzar.
The meeting was meant to expedite the implementation of the housing program throughout the country by ironing out issues and concerns being faced by DHSUD Regional Offices on the ground.
Mandated by Republic Act 11201 as the primary government agency responsible for the management of housing, human settlements and urban development, DHSUD leads the implementation of the “Pambansang Pabahay” which aims to address the housing backlog in the country pegged at more than 6.5 million units.
The DHSUD has signed partnerships with various private and government financial institutions to fund the government’s housing program.
The department also signed a number of memorandum of agreements with various local government units.
So far, DHSUD has already signed more than 140 memoranda of understanding and broken ground in 26 areas across the country for the flagship housing program.
