6 drown in Western Visayas on Feast of Saint John the Baptist


ILOILO CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Sunday, June 25, that six people drowned in Western Visayas during the Feast of Saint John the Baptist on Saturday, June 24.

Lt. Commander Jansen Benjamin, PCG 6 spokesperson, said two of the fatalities were from Iloilo. They were identified as 30-year-old Freddie Elad Divinagracia from Anilao and 65-year-old Rolando Arias Tañada from Tigbauan.

One casualty each was reported in Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental.

In Aklan, the victim was identified as 57-year-old Matilde Delfin from New Washington.

Joemar Ocayo, 36, drowned in Pilar, Capiz; 40-year-old Jomar Soriano from Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, and 28-year-old Joseph Ragasa from EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Despite these deaths, the PCG assisted various rescue units of local governments in watching beaches, rivers, and other water sites in Western Visayas during the event.
