Mayor Francis Zamora, other local government officials, and members of the public attended the Mass that coincided with the celebration of the Feast of St. John the Baptist. Presided by Fr. Mike Kalaw, the public offered their prayers for their late vice mayor, which Zamora said was a gesture of love for Villa, his family, and his supporters. After the Mass, a blessing ceremony coined the “Basbasan sa Makabagong San Juan” took place wherein Fr. Kalaw blessed the attendees as a way to “foster spiritual unity and seek the blessings of St. John the Baptist for the city and its residents.” All festivities scheduled on June 24 were cancelled by the city government in lieu of Villa’s passing. To truly honor Villa, the local government opened Villa’s wake to public viewing on June 24 at the San Juan City Hall. Residents can freely and properly pay their respects to Villa until 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 25. By June 25, a necrological service will be held at the Atrium of the city hall wherein a special ceremony to recognize Villa’s contributions to the city will be conducted. At 1 p.m. a prayer service will be held before Villa is laid to rest at 2 p.m. at the San Juan Cemetery. Zamora urged the public to join the city government’s activities to commemorate Villa and reminisce the vice mayor’s legacy. Villa, aged 52, died last Sunday, June 18, due to natural causes.
