BACOLOD CITY – The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines lost copper ground wires worth P660,000 to thieves in Hacienda Aquiles, Barangay San Isidro, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Thursday, June 22.
Major Ronald Santillan, Calatrava police chief, said they are now checking junk shops in nearby areas to recover the stolen item at the NGCP compound with a length of 600 meters.
Santillan said that a security officer discovered the missing copper wires during an on-site inspection.
He said they are having difficulty identifying the perpetrators due to lack of witnesses.
The facility is not yet fully operational as construction is ongoing, Santillan said, adding that there is a possibility that perpetrators could have sneaked into the compound despite the presence of two security guards.
Police have visited junk shops in the town to check if the stolen copper wires were sold to them but this turned out negative.
