PDEA-Cordillera K9 dog detects illegal drugs in abandoned package

BAGUIO CITY – A dog from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region K-9 Unit detected illegal drugs in an abandoned package in a courier service in La Trinidad, Benguet on Tuesday, June 20.

The courier service contacted the PDEA after a parcel was left unclaimed for several days and the recipient could not be contacted.

The PDEA conducted a K-9 inspection on the parcel and the dog gestured that it contained possible illegal drugs.

The courier service opened the parcel in the presence of insulating witnesses and it was found to contain two vaporizers packed in a sky blue foil pouch labeled with Tiny 2 grams Spaceballs/Sativa (cannabis).

The item was turned over to the PDEA laboratory for analysis.

This same modus operandi of using a courier service to deliver illegal drugs was also discovered by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera in this city.

A parcel was received from a courier service in Barangay San Luis and suspected to contain illegal drugs on Monday, June 19.

The PDEA was called in and the shipment was subjected to K-9 inspection.

The parcel was opened after a K-9 dog showed an indication that it possibly contained illegal drugs. The package had 50 grams of suspected shabu concealed in a speaker and was seized and turned over to the PRO-Cordillera Laboratory.
