Ex-IZ*ONE's Jo Yu-ri, actress Park Gyu-young cast in 'Squid Game 2': Report
Two female stars have been cast in Netflix’s “Squid Game 2,” according to Korean media.
On June 23, two media outlets reported that singer and actress Jo Yu-ri, former member of girl group IZ\*ONE, and actress Park Gyu-young will be part of the second season of “Squid Game,” which became the biggest show on Netflix with 1.65 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days on the video streaming platform.

Jo Yu-ri was part of IZ\*ONE, which debuted in October 2018 and disbanded in April 2021. She made her acting debut in the drama “Mimicus” last year.
Park Gyu-young appeared in Netflix’s “Sweet Home” and will star in Netflix’s upcoming series “Celebrity,” which will premiere on June 30.
Regarding the casting, their agencies did not deny the reports but only said, “It is difficult to verify,” according to Korean media.
Another media outlet quoted Netflix as saying, “There is nothing we can confirm.”
“Squid Game,” which was released on Netflix in September 2021, tells the story of 456 people in difficult financial situations who are recruited to join deadly children’s games for a prize of 45.6 billion won (about $34.84 million).

If they are confirmed to be part of “Squid Game 2,” they will join new contestants Im Siwan (Yim Siwan), Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun who were revealed by Netflix during the Tudum 2023 event in Brazil. Season 2 will see the return of Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo. Another report stated that the production cost of the new “Squid Game” is to be at least 100 billion won (about $76.42 million). “Squid Game” season 2 will start filming in the second half of 2023 with the goal of releasing it in 2024, it added.
