Enhanced 'habagat' to bring scattered rain showers over most of PH in the coming week — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, June 23 said the expected entry of a low pressure area inside the country’s area of responsibility may strengthen the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” in the coming week.
The “hot and humid weather” experienced in some parts of the country is attributed to the country being on a “monsoon break.”
PAGASA in its weekly weather outlook released on Friday said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), which is the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form, will remain the dominant weather system in the country until Saturday, June 24.
Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, while the rest of Luzon will have warm and humid weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.
However, from Sunday to Wednesday, June 25 to 28, Central and Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao may have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms because of the “re-emergence of the southwest monsoonal flow triggered by the expected entry of a low pressure system,” according to PAGASA.
Meanwhile, Northern Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.
From Thursday to Friday, June 29 to 30, Luzon and Visayas may have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, while Mindanao may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with afternoon or evening rain showers or thunderstorms.
