ILOILO CITY – The province of Antique is no longer free from African Swine Fever (ASF) after four cases were detected among pigs in Hamtic town.
AN ASF checkpoint in Antique (DA-6) “Results showed that four out five samples tested positive for ASF,” said Jose Albert Barrogo, Department of Agriculture (DA)-6 chief. In a letter to Antique Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Barrogo said that the DA-6 Regional Animal Diseases and Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) confirmed the presence of ASF from samples taken in Barangay Guintas, more than two weeks after suspected cases of ASF due to hog deaths were recorded not only in the barangay but also in Barangays Calala, Caridad, EBJ (Lanag), Funda, Poblacion II, Poblacion III, and Pu-ao. Prior to the confirmatory tests, the local government of Hamtic has implemented measures to curb the spread of ASF. Hamtic Mayor Julius Pacificador issued an executive order banning the transport, slaughter, and selling of pork and pork by-products. The DA-6 urged the provincial government through the Antique Provincial Veterinary Office to coordinate and implement other necessary disease control measures as stipulated in the guidelines set by the Bureau of Animal Industry.
