2 NPA killed in Albay encounter

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in an encounter with the 49th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army in Guinobatan, this province, on Wednesday, June 21. Army Major Frank Roldan, Division Public Affairs Office chief, identified the casualties as Santos Seminiano, alias "Santi," and alias "Ilay" or "Elian." Roldan said troops encountered 12 communist guerrillas in Barangay Balolo during a security patrol which was conducted after they received information about the presence of armed men in the area. The gun fight lasted about 15 minutes and no casualty was recorded on the government side. Recovered after the clash were one M16 rifle, M635 rifle, two anti-personnel mines, and five knapsacks. Troops are conducting follow-up operations.
