Both Quizon and Laohawirapap, who survived Malaysian Tan Jun Ying’s upset try with a 68-move draw of their Sicilian encounter, have four points apiece with four rounds to go.

Concio, a World Cup veteran like Quizon, fell to fourth alongside Tan and three others with three points apiece.

Ruelle Canino, for her part, downed Vietnamese Nguyen Binh Vy in 32 moves of yet another Sicilian duel to remain at second in the girls U16 with four points, one point behind leader Nguyen Ha Khanh Linh of Vietnam.

Nguyen kept the solo lead after turning back Jersey Marticio in 51 moves also via the Sicilian Defense.

In the combined girls’ U8 and U10 class, Mary Janelle Tan had her chance to take the solo lead but settled for a draw with No. 1 Pham Thi Minh Ngoc of Vietnam.

Tan remained at No. 2, which she now shared with two more Vietnam bets Pham Thien Thanh and Thai Ngoc Phuong Minh with four points each.

Pham remained at No. 1 with 4.5 points.
