Mercedes-Benz wants to raise the bar for luxury SUVs with the new GLC. The new GLC carries the innovative design language that was first introduced back with the new C-Class but in a luxury SUV form. These are manifested in the exterior design characteristics all the way to the extensively digitized interior.
The new GLC is curvier and elegant, as evidenced by its dynamic body proportions. The vehicle is +58mm longer than its predecessor and boasts of a wheelbase that’s +15mm longer as well. Offered in Avantgarde trim, the exterior features LED high performance headlights and two-section LED taillights. It rolls on 19-inch twin-spoke light alloy wheels painted in tremolite.
Inside the cabin has been greatly modernized, with interior components inspired by a first-class plane cabin. The driver gets a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 11.9-inch central display touchscreen to put him or her in control. The display can also be customized to show preferred information easily.
Now trademark feature in the new generation vehicles, driving is turned into an effortless experience with the MBUX system that can be controlled with natural voice commands like “Hey Mercedes.” It’s designed to work perfectly with smart phones and comes with a Wireless Charging System in the front. Phones can be connected seamlessly with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with audio coursed through the Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with 15 speakers and a sound system output of 710 watts and 64-color ambient lighting. Powering the GLC is a 2.0-liter inline-four that makes 204-PS with 320-Nm of torque. It includes a mild-hybrid assist system for increased power but reduced emissions. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and benefits from the Mercedes-Benz 4Matic AWD system.
When in tougher road conditions, the GLC can be set to OFFROAD mode via the DYNAMIC SELECT driving mode selection. It comes with several other driving modes to adjust engine response and traction.
For practicality, it has a 620-liter luggage compartment capacity behind rear seat. This extends to 1,680-liters when the second row is folded. Finally, the GLC also comes with a long list of safety features. There’s Active Parking Assist with Parktronic and Active Brake Assist with Pedestrian Protection for all around and road guidance and a smoother driving experience. It also comes with GUARD 360 to monitor the vehicle security while you’re away.
“The new GLC is a culmination of years of dedication, of passion and innovation by Mercedes-Benz engineers and designers. The new GLC is bigger, sleeker and sportier. The new GLC embraces it’s rough and ready personality in the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, and it promises an unparalleled driving experience, that blends power and efficiency like never before,” said Frankie Ang, Chief Operating Officer at Auto Nation Group, Inc.
