Marcos urges elderly: Get bivalent Covid-19 vax
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has renewed his appeal to the country's vulnerable sector, particularly the elderly, to get vaccinated with the new bivalent Covid-19 vaccines, saying while the disease's effects are no longer as severe, the fight against Covid-19 was not yet over.

Marcos said this as he led the launch of the bivalent Covid-19 vaccines at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City on Wednesday, June 21. In his speech, the President said that even though the World Health Organization (WHO) had declared that Covid-19 no longer represents a "global health emergency," Filipinos should not be complacent as the threat of the disease remains. "We must not let our guard down. Although the rest of our society, the other sectors of our society, have tried to move on and say the emergency is over, and certainly, in a way, we can say that that is the case. However, it is not over completely," he said. "That is why we should not be complacent, and that is why we institute programs like this which continue to seek to protect our vulnerable populace, our vulnerable sectors of our populace. And that particular demographic, in this case, is that of the elderly," he added. President Marcos urged Filipinos, particularly the elderly, to get vaccinated, saying the risks are manageable. "Magpabakuna na po tayo para hindi na tayo magkasakit, makabalik tayo sa trabaho nang mas mabilis, at lahat ng nais nating gawin ay magawa natin dahil tayo ay ligtas sa sakit (Let us get vaccinated so we won't get sick, we can get back to our jobs quicker, and so we can do anything we want because we are safe from the virus)," he said. "Rest assured that with the use of science-based strategies and a whole-of-society approach, these risks will remain manageable. It cannot be denied that vaccines have played an integral role in our fight against Covid-19," he added.

Marcos likewise reminded the public to continue following health protocols. "I urge all of us to remain relentless in our fight against Covid-19 and all other infectious diseases that threaten the country," he said. "As long as we exhibit discipline, maintain cleanliness, and practice cooperation, we will overcome the residual challenges that still are posed by Covid-19 and emerge stronger than ever as members of a healthy, resilient, and productive Philippine society," he added.During the launch of the bivalent Covid-19 vaccines at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City today, President Marcos said that despite the effects of Covid-19 being no longer as severe, the public should remain vigilant against new variants. @manilabulletin (RTVM Screenshot) pic.twitter.com/az7SuEM5YK
