Albay 2nd district Rep. Joey Salceda has thanked President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for committing to help keep the evacuees' collective dignity intact through cleanliness. This, after Marcos assured that the national government will assist with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities for the benefit of the thousands of people displaced by Mayon Volcano's continued restiveness. “Cleanliness is central to Filipino dignity. That’s why we are very thankful that the President has given his assurance of support for these facilities in evacuation centers,” explained Salcedaq, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means. “For prolonged evacuation, sanitation concerns will compound. And the lack of WASH facilities compounds other risks, including disease," he noted. Salceda, a former three-term Albay governor, has said that the Mayon situation could be "protracted". “Historically, the scenarios are 45, 90, or 110 days. It could, of course, get even longer than that. This will be a waiting game. Until an explosive eruption happens, or the alert level goes down, we can’t really do much other than evacuate and wait," he earlier said. At any rate, the Bicolano said the Albay solons in Congress will continue to work with the House leadership, headed by Speaker Martin Romualdez, to get the necessary funding for the WASH facilities. Mayon Volcano is located in Legazpi City, Albay.
