Caraga cops nab 175 for illegal cockfighting from January to June 19
CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – The Police Regional Office-13 arrested 175 individuals for allegedly engaging in illegal cockfighting in the Caraga region from Jan 1. to June 19, 2023.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II said bet money totaling P185,282 were seized from them.
The Butuan City Police Office and Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office arrested 33 each, followed by Agusan del Sur PPO with 30, and Agusan del Norte with 27.
Surigao del Sur PPO apprehended 24, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Regional Field Unit, 13; Regional Intelligence Division and Dinagat Island PPO, five each, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion-13, one.
“On Monday, June 19, two cockfighting aficionados were nabbed by the police for violating Presidential Decree 449, or the ‘Cockfighting Law of 1974,’” Labra said.
They were nabbed by the police based on an arrest warrant issued by the 10th Judicial Region, Mainit, Surigao del Norte with P10,000 bail each, Labra added.
"Our efforts against illegal cockfighting continue because we never tolerate lawbreakers,” he said. “We also tap our force multipliers for wider intelligence gathering and sustained cooperation to disrupt the networks that facilitate these illegal activities.”
