Teenager involved in Tondo street riot faces alarm and scandal, gun raps

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Monday, June 19, after he was seen carrying a pen gun during a street riot in Tondo, Manila on Sunday, June 18. The Manila Police District (MPD) Raxabago Police Station (PS-1) identified the suspect as Glenn Distreza Jr., a member of "Bahala Na" gang and resident of Barangay 28, Balut, Tondo. According to the police report, PS-1 officers were conducting patrol at about 6:15 p.m. on Sunday when they spotted two groups engaging in a riot in front of Building 16, Aroma Compound, Barangay 105, Tondo. Police said members of the two groups were holding different sticks and weapons and throwing stones at each other at around 1 a.m., which caused panic among the bystanders. The patrolling officers immediately responded to pacify the gangs, but they all scampered upon noticing the presence of the policemen. The responding police officers managed to corner and arrest Distreza, who was holding an improvised pen gun with one live ammunition. Police said the arrested suspect will face charges for violation of Article 155 of the Revised Penal Code or Alarm and Scandal and Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Law before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
